The Fertility Panel is a simple blood test for men and women that have been designed to look into genes that are directly connected with fertility - that is, your and your partner's capacity to get pregnant or carry a child to full term. The results of this Fertility Panel test can help your fertility specialist determine the optimal treatment plan to help you get pregnant. Cystic Fibrosis testing in our partner laboratory revealed that one in every 16 male patients and one in every 23 female patients possess a mutation that causes Cystic Fibrosis (CF). Most of these patients had no idea they had this mutation. This gene is screened for over 1,000 alterations by the Fertility Panel. Many mutations in this gene induce CF in children if they are inherited from both parents. There are also abnormalities in the CF gene in males that disrupt the normal development of the tube (vas deferens) leading to the location of sperm production in the testis. The absence of this tube is one reason of male infertility, however, it is treatable with IVF/ICSI.
